June has been designated as pride month. It is a time where sexual immorality and perversion is celebrated. These groups have taken the symbol of the rainbow as their own but what does the rainbow really signify?
Where is the rainbow mentioned in the Bible?
Genesis 9:8-17
“Then God spoke to Noah and to his sons with him, saying: “And as for Me, behold, I establish My covenant with you and with your descendants after you, and with every living creature that is with you: the birds, the cattle, and every beast of the earth with you, of all that go out of the ark, every beast of the earth. Thus I establish My covenant with you: Never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood; never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.”
And God said: “This is the sign of the covenant which I make between Me and you, and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth. It shall be, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the rainbow shall be seen in the cloud; and I will remember My covenant which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh. The rainbow shall be in the cloud, and I will look on it to remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.” And God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant which I have established between Me and all flesh that is on the earth.”
The rainbow first appeared as a covenant between God and man. The world had just been judged by a worldwide flood and only eight people were saved. Noah and his three sons and their wives. God made a convent at that He would never again judge the world by a global flood. Now when it rains, we sometimes see a rainbow which reminds us of this promise.
Why did God judge the world with a global flood?
We see in Genesis 6:5-8 why the world was judged. The heart of man was evil continually.
“Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. So the LORD said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.” But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.”
We see that man was only evil and wicked so much that God had to destroy the earth. However He was merciful in that He found grace in Noah and his family. God used Noah to build an Ark to save his family and the land dwelling animals.
Today when we see the LGTB community using the rainbow symbol as their own it also brings to mind judgment. Their lifestyle is abhorrent to God and the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed by fire and brimstone because of the sexual perversion of those cities. Genesis 13:13 says “But the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and sinful against the LORD.” Genesis 19:4-5 describes the depravity of Sodom. “Now before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, both old and young, all the people from every quarter, surrounded the house. And they called to Lot and said to him, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us that we may know them carnally.”
There is coming a judgement for everyman who has not been redeemed through Jesus Christ. After death there is the Judgment of God where each person will have to give account on the sins they have committed before being cast into the lake of fire. Revelation 20:11-15 describes the Great White Throne Judgement.
“Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.”
The only way to escape this judgement is to accept the saving work Jesus did for us on the cross. Jesus took on God’s judgement in place of all mankind. He paid the fine for us where we are unable. He made a way for us to be redeemed and our sins forgiven. All that we are required to do is make a choice. We need to agree with God that we are sinners and turn from our sins. This is called repentance. We then put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ to save us. Please choose to accept Jesus Christ today before death takes you and then the judgement.
